The leader of the Gulf Cartel and operational commander in Matamoros was arrested Tuesday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Evaristo Cruz Sanchez, known as “El Vaquero,” was arrested April 6 in the state of Nuevo Leon by officers from Mexico’s Secretary of National Defense and the Attorney General of the Republic, a CBP news release stated.
CBP began featuring Cruz Sanchez as a wanted criminal on their ‘Se Busca’ campaign, an effort that started in June 2018 between Border Patrol and the State of Tamaulipas.
The campaign features wanted criminals on billboards, posters, flyers and videos, along with a phone number where the public can make anonymous tips.
