Hidalgo County launches homebound vaccination program

Hidalgo County announced a COVID-19 vaccine initiative for residents who are homebound and unable to visit clinics.

The county will begin pre-registration for homebound residents Wednesday. Residents who are interested in signing up for the homebound vaccinations should call the Hidalgo County Informational Hotline at (956) 292-7765.

Residents who meet the pre-screening qualifications will be visited by members of the Texas Military Department in coordination with the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

“We have initiated this registration process to better serve homebound vaccine seekers and to speed up the vaccination process for our residents so that they are better protected from the virus,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a news release.

Anyone over the age of 65 and anyone with disabilities that prevent them from leaving home are eligible for the homebound vaccine.
