Cameron County reports 5 virus deaths

Five more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Wednesday.

One death each was reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, La Feria, Port Isabel and San Benito, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement Wednesday night.

The individuals included one person in his 30s, one person in his 50s and three people in their 60s, the health department said.

This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths reported in Cameron County to 1,552, according to the health department.

Also Wednesday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 25 COVID-19 cases here, raising the total number of cases reported in Cameron County to 38,056.

The new cases include two children ages 9 or younger, seven people ages 10 to 19, three people in their 20s, five people in their 30s, one person in her 40s, four people in their 50s, one person in his 60s and two people in their 70s, the health department said.

New cases were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Primera, Rio Hondo and San Benito, the health department said.

There have also been an additional 135 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 34,229.

s part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed and continues to monitor the situation, the health department said in the statement.
