SAN BENITO — City officials will launch their first clinic aimed at administering the COVID-19 vaccine’s second and final dose Tuesday, targeting people 65 and older.
The clinic, opening at the Cameron County Fairgrounds at 7 a.m., will administer about 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine to people who received their first dose during a Feb. 9 clinic held at the same site.
Officials will require people present their COVID-19 vaccination record card along with their identification card to receive their vaccination.
“If you received a first-dose vaccination at the fairgrounds on Feb. 9, you are guaranteed the second dose,” city spokesman David Favila stated in a press release.
The Moderna vaccine requires two doses administered within about 30-day intervals to reach its 94-percent effectiveness rate.
The clinic will run through 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds at 551 Cesar Gonzalez Parkway.
Officials prohibited overnight parking.
