SAN JUAN — A man who police say confessed after being arrested in connection with the death of a 65-year-old woman was arraigned here Saturday afternoon.

Moises Herrera Peña, 35, was charged with two felonies, murder and tampering evidence, by Justice of the Peace Jaime Jerry Munoz.

The victim was identified as 65-year-old Rosalinda Garcia, whose death was reported on Feb. 25, according to San Juan Police Chief Ruben Morin.

Following Garcia’s death, Morin said the multi-agency investigation discovered a vehicle and a suspect, which led to Peña’s arrest.

Though what Peña did wasn’t revealed yet, the police chief did say the man was arrested at a traffic spot. Following his arrest, Morin said Peña ended up giving a confession.

Because the investigation is on-going, Morin did not reveal any additional details surrounding the case.

“They were very patient with us and they were very grateful for the end result,” Morin said of Garcia’s children, thanking them at the arraignment for their understanding. “This investigation was going to be time consuming.”

Additionally, Morin also thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals, the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and the Hidalgo County’s District Attorney Office.

As of Saturday, Peña is being held without bond.
