RGV reports 805 new COVID-19 cases; 18 deaths

The Rio Grande Valley reported 805 more cases of COVID-19 and 18 more deaths tied to the virus Monday.

Hidalgo County confirmed 628 of those and nine of the deaths.

The additional cases included 202 reported as confirmed, 418 as probable and eight suspected, bringing the county to a total of 51,004 confirmed cases, 25,215 probable and 1,093 suspected.

The additional deaths bring the COVID-19 toll for the county to 2,638.

Of the nine new deaths, six were over 70 years old and the others were in their 50s or 60s. They hailed from Alamo, Donna, McAllen, Mission, Pharr and an undisclosed location.

The county also reported 207 individuals infected with the coronavirus in area hospitals, 108 of them in intensive care units.

Cameron County reported 172 more cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of cases there to 37,411. The county also reported nine deaths, bringing that total to 1,495.

Willacy County reported five new cases of the coronavirus Monday.
