EDINBURG — The third suspect accused by the Hidalgo County’s Sheriff Office in a shooting that took the life of a 6-year-old girl was arraigned Sunday and their bond set at $1 million.

McAllen native William Garcia, 30, was charged Sunday with capital murder under 10 years old, a capitol felony.

Previously, the sheriff’s office arrested two other suspects — 43-year-old Edinburg resident Daniel Guzman Flores and 42-year-old Alton resident Marco Antonio Chairez — who were arraigned Thursday and also charged with capital murder of a person under 10 years old.

The trio were arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred in rural Mission on Tuesday afternoon. Though Garcia’s role has not been specified by authorities yet, investigators believe Flores and Chairez fired more than two dozen rounds into a residence.

As a result, one of the rounds hit a 6-year-old girl, who was lying in bed and watching television. The bullet reportedly went through two walls and killed the girl instantly, according to Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra.

The young girl’s identity will not be revealed, sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Frank Medrano said Wednesday.

During a news conference Thursday, Guerra said an alleged motive hadn’t been fully identified. As the investigation continues, the sheriff said then that investigators believe there are more suspects.

Like Flores and Chairez, Garcia also received a bond of $1 million.
