Cameron County reports 5 virus deaths

Five move Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Friday night.

Two deaths were reported in Brownsville and one death was reported each in La Feria, Los Fresnos and San Benito, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement Friday night.

The individuals included one person in his 50s, two people in their 60s, one person in his 70s and one person in her 90s, the health department said.

This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Cameron County to 1,486, the health department said.

Also Friday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 73 COVID-19 cases here, raising the total number of cases reported in Cameron County to 37,239, the health department said.

The new cases include four people ages 9 or younger, 13 people ages 10 to 19, 11 people in their 20s, six people in their 30s, 12 people in their 40s, nine people in their 50s, eight people in their 60s, six people in their 70s and four people in their 80s, the health department said.

New cases were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, La Feria, Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, Rancho Viejo, San Benito and South Padre Island, the health department said.

There have also been an additional 221 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 31,654, Cameron County Public Health said.

As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed and continues to monitor the situation, the health department said in the statement.
