A Siberian Husky named “Dallas” is getting a second chance at life after it was seized and awarded for adoption due to alleged negligence during last week’s cold snap, authorities said.

Local law enforcement and animal control responded to complaints from a Good Samaritan late last week that Dallas had been left neglected on a local property with no food, water, and no access to shelter while temperatures reached below freezing, the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

Based on the evidence collected, law enforcement secured a civil animal cruelty warrant and Dallas was impounded last Friday pending a hearing before a magistrate, authorities said. On Thursday, after hearing evidence, Justice of Peace Janie Jaimez found that Dallas had been cruelly treated and he was awarded to the Cameron County Animal Shelter for Adoption, the press release stated.

The Cameron County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office, Cameron County Animal Control, and Cameron County Public Health worked together to follow up on the complaints of animal cruelty and help rescue Dallas, authorities said.

Dallas is at the Cameron County Animal Shelter and needs a home just like other animals at the shelter.

Authorities urge residents to consider adopting Dallas or one of the other pets that are available and give them a loving forever home.

Authorities also urge the public report potential cases of animal cruelty to local authorities.
