Cameron County reports 13 virus deaths

Thirteen more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Tuesday.

The individuals included one woman in her 50s, five people in their 60s, two people in their 70s and five people in their 80s, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement Tuesday night.

Eight deaths were reported in Brownsville and one each in Harlingen, La Feria, Los Fresnos, Los Indios and San Benito.

This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Cameron County to 1,460, the health department said.

Also Tuesday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 65 COVID-19 cases here, raising the total number of cases reported in Cameron County to 37,106.

The new cases include three children ages 9 or younger, 32 people ages 10 to 19, 11 people in their 20s, one person in her 30s, five people in their 40s, six people in their 50s, two people in their 60s, three people in their 70s, one person in her 80s and one person in her 90s, the health department said.

New cases were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, La Feria, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Primera, San Benito and South Padre Island, the health department said.

There have also been an additional 207 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 31,112, the health department said.

As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed and continues to monitor the situation, the health department said in the statement.
