SAN BENITO – A suspect in the fatal shooting of a man found by police inside a pickup truck remained in custody Sunday afternoon, according to a press release issued by the San Benito Police Department.
The victim was found by a police officer who was waived down by a concerned resident at 1:28 a.m. at the 100 block of Virginia Street in regards to a possible shooting, according to the release.
The officer found the victim in a truck parked near the area, slouched over and with a gunshot wound to his head, the release stated.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, witnesses identified a person of interest leaving the area. After a search, the suspect was found a few blocks away hiding underneath and abandoned house.
