A look at power outage numbers in the Valley

Tens of thousands of customers across the Valley and the rest of Texas are without power for a second day.

A review of outage maps for AEP Texas shows virtually every city in the Rio Grande Valley has homes and businesses without electricity.

McAllen, Edinburg, La Feria, San Benito, Palmview, Palmhurst, Rio Grande City, Harlingen, Doolittle, Hargil, Citrus City and other areas all are reporting at least 1,000 customers without power. Many of them have upwards of 3,000 to 4,000 without any power source.

The website poweroutage.us reports on outages across the country. The website says AEP has the following outages in the Valley:

Hidalgo County, 92,400
Cameron County – 33,500
Willacy County – 2,600
Starr County – 6,500

According to poweroutage.us, Magic Valley Electric estimates include the following:

Hidalgo County – 21,500
Cameron County – 5,500
Willacy County – 500

The website does not track the Brownsville Public Utilities Board, the largest provider of power to the City of Brownsville.

Statewide, 4,150,000 utility company customers are without power on Tuesday.
