Hidalgo Co. offices remain closed due to weather

All Hidalgo County offices will remain closed Tuesday due to the ongoing winter weather, county officials announced via a news release Tuesday morning.

“This is an historic winter storm that has impacted the entire state of Texas,” said Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez.

“Since the safety and health of our residents and of Hidalgo County employees is paramount, we have decided to keep our offices closed on Tuesday to assess and resolve any weather-related issues,” he said.

The county continues to experience power loss and low or no water pressure at many of its office buildings, the statement reads. Residents in the city of Edinburg — the county seat — were advised to boil their water before use.

The county’s emergency operations center is still active and is running on generator power. First responders, such as law enforcement and the health department, remain on duty, the statement reads.

“Other county personnel have been ordered to work remotely from home to the extent that they can given the continued loss of electrical power,” the statement reads.
