Nine more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Friday.
Two deaths were reported in Brownsville, three in Harlingen, two in La Feria and one each in Los Indios and Santa Rosa, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement Friday night.
The individuals included a man in his 40s, five people in their 60s and three people in their 80s, the health department said.
This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Cameron County to 1,366, the health department said.
Also Friday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 111 COVID-19 cases here, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in Cameron County to 35,736.
New cases were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, La Feria, Laguna Vista, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Primera, Rio Hondo, San Benito, Santa Maria and South Padre Island, the health department said.
The new cases include six children ages 9 or younger, 18 people ages 10 to 19, 13 people in their 20s, 12 people in their 30s, 12 people in their 40s, 20 people in their 50s, 23 people in their 60s, six people in their 70s and one person in her 80s, the health department said.
There have also been an additional 320 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 29,552.
As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed and continues to monitor the situation, the health department said in the statement.
