Double homicide suspect from Edcouch receives bond

Castellano

An Edcouch man accused of gunning down his common-law wife and mother-in-law on New Year’s Eve received a bond Wednesday morning.

State District Judge Keno Vasquez set a $1 million bond for 29-year-old Agustin Adan Castellano, who had been incarcerated without a bond since his Dec. 31 arrest.

Castellano is accused of shooting and killing 30-year-old Olga Guadalupe Guevera, his common-law wife, and 58-year-old María de la Luz Reyes in the 13000 block of Kenny Lane.

He is charged with capital murder of multiple persons.

During the hearing, Vasquez asked the state for the probable cause used to arrest Castellano, which the man’s attorney, O. Rene Flores objected to so the judge did not hear the allegations.

The state asked Vasquez to set a $2 million bond while Flores asked him to set a $100,000 bond.

In addition to other factors, the judge set the bond at $1 million because he was unable to consider probable cause during the hearing.

The probable cause affidavit says a witness saw Castellano, who was armed with a rifle, chase Guevera inside a residence. Then the witness heard gunshots, according to the affidavit.

“Olga’s mother, María de la Luz Reyes, went to Olga’s residence to check on her, at which point (the witness) heard several more gunshots,” the affidavit stated.

Another witness who heard the shots went to the residence, saw Castellano with a rifle and began fighting with him and managed to take the firearm away from him, according to the sheriff’s office.

A motive in the alleged double homicide hasn’t been publicly revealed.
