427 in Hidalgo County hospitals with COVID-19

County reports 14 COVID-19 related deaths, 584 positive cases

Hidalgo County officials reported 14 deaths related to COVID-19, with an additional 584 positive cases related to the virus, raising the sum of total positive cases here to 62,833.

The youngest among the deaths was a woman in their 30s, to people in their 70s.

Thursday’s deaths increased Hidalgo County’s COVID-19 death toll to 2,418.

In addition, the county’s Health and Human Services officials reported a total of 427 individuals were hospitalized in county hospitals, with 140 patients in intensive care units.

As hospitalizations rise, it’s unclear where county hospitals’ capacity is at. According to Hidalgo County’s COVID-19 dashboard, as of Wednesday, there are 177 “RGV Beds Available,” while on Tuesday, there were 300 beds available. The dashboard has not been updated as of Thursday evening.

Additionally, nearly 500 individuals were released from isolation on Thursday, specifically 497, raising the total number of those reported to have been released from isolation to 58,274.

As of Thursday, Hidalgo County has administered 359,297 COVID-19 tests, with 295,710 returning negative.

According to county officials, only 2,141 cases are active.

In Cameron County, officials reported 12 deaths related to COVID-19 and an additional 101 positive cases related to the virus, raising the total positive cases there to 34,691.

The ages among Thursday’s deaths ranged from people in their 40s to people in their 90s.

The death toll in Cameron County is now at 1,308.

Additionally, officials also reported 167 individuals recovered from the virus, raising the total number of those who recovered from COVID-19 to 28,279.
