McAllen ISD Superintendent J.A. Gonzalez

McAllen ISD Superintendent J.A. Gonzalez was recognized at the annual Texas Association of School Administrators mid-winter conference Monday.

Gonzalez was recognized for winning the Texas Superintendent of the Year award, which was announced in October of last year after being recognized as Regional Superintendent of the Year during the summer.

Gonzalez is the state’s 2021 nominee for National Superintendent of the Year, a title that will be bestowed in February.

“Congratulations Dr. Gonzalez, a well-deserved honor,” TASA President Brian Woods said.

Gonzalez wasn’t the only McAllen representative to receive compliments at the conference.

McAllen High Mariachi Oro closed out the virtual meeting with a lively performance of “Los Cazadores,” drawing compliments from school district administrators hailing from across the state.

“I am so impressed with these amazing students,” Karin Holacka of Duncanville ISD wrote about the performance.
