SAN BENITO — As the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise, communities are continuing to make adjustments during these trying times.

The San Benito school district announced that all student instruction will be asynchronous remote starting on Monday, Jan. 25, through Friday, Jan. 29.

The announcement states that the decision was made due to an increase in COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates, as well as out of an interest for the safety and well-being for students and employees.

“Doing so will afford us the opportunity to fully enforce social distancing and also thoroughly clean and disinfect our campuses,” the announcement states.

Meal distribution via bus route and curbside delivery will continue as scheduled.

Curbside meals occur every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Angela G. Leal, Fred Booth, Judge Oscar De La Fuente, La Encantada, La Paloma and Rangerville elementary schools, as well as the Dr. Raul Garza, Jr. STEAM Academy, Miller Jordan Middle School and San Benito High School.

Meals are available for all children under 18 years of age with proper documentation, such as a report card, ID or birth certificate.

“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation. Let’s collaboratively strive to keep our students, staff, families and community safe,” the announcement states. “Together, we can prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
