Cameron County reports 8 more virus deaths

Eight more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported.

Four deaths were reported in Harlingen, one in Los Indios, one in Primera and two in San Benito, Cameron County Health said in a statement Thursday night.

This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Cameron County to 1,257, the health department said.

Also Thursday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 213 COVID-19 cases in Cameron County, raising the total number of cases here to 33,517.

New cases were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, La Feria, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Port Isabel, Primera, Rio Hondo, San Benito, Santa Rosa and South Padre Island.

The new cases include 17 children ages 9 and younger, 27 people ages 10 to 19, 27 people in their 20s, 28 people in their 30s, 25 people in their 40s, 33 people in their 50s, 23 people in their 60s, 28 people in their 70s, four people in their 80s and one person in her 90s, the health department said.

There have also been an additional 114 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 27,625.
