Hidalgo Co. reports 18 more COVID-19 deaths, 739 new cases

Daily coronavirus-related deaths are once again creeping toward the 20s in Hidalgo County as hospitalization rates remain at numbers last seen during the end of the summer surge.

The county reported 18 additional deaths related to the virus Wednesday and 739 more cases, bringing the case tally to 58,754, 40,775 of which are reported as confirmed, 17,085 as probable and 895 as suspected.

Out of Wednesday’s cases, 483 were reported as confirmed, 253 as probable and three as suspected.

The majority of the 18 new deaths are people over 70, although they include individuals in their 60s, 50s, 40s and even a Pharr woman in her 30s.

According to the county, 423 people with the virus remain hospitalized, 140 of them in intensive care units.
