SpaceX testing rescheduled

The planned June testing at Spacex’s Boca Chica Beach launch site has again been postponed.

Cameron County announced Monday that three days of testing planned to start tomorrow afternoon have been rescheduled to next week.

According to the notice, State Highway 4 to Boca Chica Beach is scheduled to close from 2 to 8 p.m. on June 17 and/or in the alternative during the same time period on June 18 and/or June 19.

The highly anticipated first SpaceX tests occurred in April, when the county repeatedly closed Boca Chica Beach and State Highway 4 while SpaceX conducted multiple tests on its Starship Hopper prototype.

Those tests culminated with the prototype’s first “hop,” where it lifted off the ground about three feet.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said in late April in a Twitter posting that crews were preparing for untethered hover tests.

The county has also established a hotline for road closures. The public can call (956) 548-9541 for information about the closures.
