HARLINGEN — Young leaders with a passion for the environment and community service have the chance to join a group of like-minded individuals and make an impact in their community.

Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) is accepting applications now through Friday, March 5, for its new Young Texan Ambassador program.

According to organizers, the program seeks to inspire and empower youths to keep communities clean and beautiful by providing them with resources that educate, spread awareness and help them learn how to become leaders.

“We are thrilled to offer a new program at KTB called the Young Texan Ambassadors,” KTB Development and Communications Manager Brianna Fuller said. “Through this program, we hope to equip Texans ages 15 to 25 with the tools and resources to become capacity builders in their own communities, leading community improvement efforts and inspiring others to keep our communities clean and beautiful.”

Participants will receive a cleanup kit that includes — an ambassador T-shirt, a bandana, a trash bag, gloves, hand sanitizer, KTB and Don’t mess with Texas items, masks and an activity book.

They will also receive support from the KTB team, networking opportunities, community service hour fulfillment, a resume booster, as well as be able to learn from ambassadors across Texas.

Ambassadors are required to commit to one year of service, organize and participate in at least one litter cleanup event, share pictures of the event on their social media, attend four workshops throughout the year, attend a virtual orientation and review the ambassador handbook.

Additionally, participants must adhere to local and state ordinances in regard to COVID-19 and represent and uphold the mission and values of KTB.
