Another case of mpox was reported in Hidalgo County this week.

On Monday, Hidalgo County officials confirmed there was a 10th case of mpox in the county.

A person who develops flu-like symptoms from the virus will usually develop a rash approximately one to four days later.

The latest case is the first case of mpox the Hidalgo County has reported since Oct. 31.

Previously known as monkeypox, the World Health Organization changed the name to mpox in November. Following exposure to the virus, symptoms usually appear within three weeks.

As of last week, there were 29,711 cases and 20 deaths due to mpox in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Globally, there are a total of 82,474 cases.

In Texas, there have been 2,846 cases.
