I-2 in Alamo to close for nearly an hour due to fatal crash re-construction

If you were expecting better than usual traffic on Interstate 2 Monday because of the holiday, think again.

The Texas Department of Transportation said in a statement that both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the interstate will be closed at 1 p.m. Monday between Tower Road and Valverde Road in Alamo as investigators reconstruct a recent fatal crash at the location.

“All lanes of traffic will be diverted to the I-2 eastbound and westbound frontage roads,” TxDOT said in the statement. “Eastbound drivers will exit at Valverde Rd and re-enter at the next available on-ramp. Westbound drivers will exit at Tower and re-enter at the next available on-ramp.”

TxDOT said the closure is expected to be in place from 30 minutes to one hour.

“Police and fire personnel will assist with traffic flow,” TxDOT said in the statement. “Drivers should anticipate delays.”
