Pharr Chief of Police Andy Harvey resigned from his post on Monday — about a week after he resigned as city manager.
The news was confirmed by Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez late Monday evening.
Harvey’s resignation comes nearly a week after he announced his departure as city manager during the Sept. 6 regular called meeting of the board of commissioners. Harvey later said he made the decision to focus more on his position as chief of police.
“He came in this afternoon and spoke to the city manager and resigned,” Hernandez said Monday. “Just like that.”
Hernandez said he has yet to hear any further details surrounding Harvey’s resignation from the police department.
Harvey was confirmed as Pharr’s Chief of Police at the recommendation of interim City Manager Ed Wylie during a special meeting of the city commission on July 13, 2020. He would go on to fill Wylie’s seat as city manager on April 22, serving in both roles as police chief and city manager.
“From my perspective, he did a good job,” Hernandez said. “He was an advocate for mental health, incorporated the mental health unit, and was taking the police department in a direction that we wanted it to be, which is a better level.”
Attempts to reach Harvey for comment Monday night were unsuccessful.
