Janet Alfaro, coordinator of Student Recruitment for TSTC’s Harlingen campus, said the new recruiters will bring fresh ideas along with their higher education and customer service experience.

“The Department of Student Recruitment will have several events throughout the year for students to learn more about TSTC programs and the resources that are offered,” Alfaro said. “In addition, the recruiters will visit high schools across the Rio Grande Valley and provide presentations about TSTC.”

Ortiz, of Brownsville, said he is ready to build rapport between the public and the TSTC community.

“I want to point someone in the right direction so they can continue their education,” Ortiz said. “As a recruiter, I want to help students connect with the Career Services and find a job. Not only do we want you to graduate, we want to see you work in your field of study.”

One of the many goals a recruiter has is to help make a student’s college experience memorable.

Ortiz said his passion for student success will be demonstrated through his leadership.

“I am outgoing and bilingual, and I feel those characteristics will help me excel,” he said

Ortega, of Harlingen, said he is thrilled to give back as a TSTC Automotive Technology alumnus.

“TSTC is a very family-oriented institution,” Ortega said. “We remove barriers to help the students achieve their educational goals. We have numerous resources available to ensure a great experience at TSTC.”

Ortega added that he looks forward to making the students feel welcome.

“I am self-driven, and I can empathize since I am a product of TSTC,” he said.

The new student recruiters look forward to helping students seize the opportunities that await them when classes for the fall 2022 semester begin Monday, Aug. 29.
