Bobcat spotted: Large felines make an appearance in Edinburg, McAllen

A bobcat made itself at home Tuesday in the front yard of a residence located near Depot Road in Edinburg — the latest in a recent string of sightings of large felines.

Earlier this month, McAllen city officials warned residents about a “large cat like animal” seen near North 23rd Street and Rice Avenue. Officials urged residents to stay away and leave the handling of such wildlife to the appropriate game officials.

In April, another bobcat was spotted lounging on one of the picnic tables at Sofie’s “SS” Saloon in South McAllen.

The McAllen Police Department reminded the community to exercise caution when encountering wildlife. The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife may be reached at (800) 792-1112. The McAllen Animal Control may be reached at (956) 681-2124.
