The McAllen ISD Board of Trustees approved a $6.04 million bid from Pharr-based D&F Industries last week for improvements to James “Nikki” Rowe High School’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.
“They are replacing existing chillers and other items,” district spokesperson Mark May wrote in an email Tuesday. “They will put in a new chiller plant with new HVAC air handlers, piping, chillers, controls and water towers. This is part of the district’s master facilities plan in which each campus has a replacement schedule for its needs.”
According to materials presented to the board, the contract price for the project is $5.89 million plus a contingency of $150,000.
“Administration is currently in negotiations for Best and Final Offer,” the materials read.
The district invited 182 contractors to submit proposals for the project. Three contractors responded, including two no-bids.
D&F was recommended to the board by an evaluation committee.
“Funds for this project are budgeted through the Capital Projects Fund,” the materials said.
