Laguna Madre Water District asks customers to conserve water

PORT ISABEL — Some water usage guidelines have been made for residents in the Laguna Madre area.

Laguna Madre Water District (LMWD) officials are asking customers to conserve water after initiating stage two in its water conservation plan.

According to a LMWD press release, the decision was made because of mild water shortage conditions caused by levels of water stored in Amistad and Falcon Reservoirs dropping below 50 percent of capacity.

The press release states that landscape irrigation and watering the lawn will only be permitted from 7 p.m. through 7 a.m. on designated water days.

Laguna Heights and Laguna Vista’s designated water days are Monday and Thursday.

Tuesday and Friday are designated to South Padre Island.

Port Isabel’s designated water days are Wednesday and Saturday.

Using water to wash any motor vehicle, truck, trailer, boat, airplane and other mobile equipment will be prohibited except on the designated water days, the press release states.

According to LMWD officials, water use for non-essential purposes is prohibited.
