Six more COVID-19 deaths, 184 new cases reported in RGV

Another six Rio Grande Valley residents died from complications due to COVID-19 while another 184 people tested positive for the coronavirus disease, county officials reported Friday.

Among them were five Hidalgo County residents who died and 142 people who tested positive, the county stated in a news release.

The five deceased individuals included a Donna woman in her 40s, a Donna man in his 60s, an Alamo woman in her 70s, a McAllen man in his 70s, and a Mission man in his 70s.

The total number of COVID-19 deaths for the county is now at 2,732, according to the news release.

Of the 142 new cases, 87 are confirmed, 49 are probable, and six are suspected cases. There are now 83,401 total cases in Hidalgo County since the start of the pandemic, of which 55,522 are confirmed, 26,592 are probable and 1,287 are suspected cases.

Currently, there are 2,112 active cases.

Additionally, 152 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 and 59 of those patients are being treated in an intensive care unit.

Cameron County health officials reported one COVID-related death, that of a Brownsville man in his 60s, which brings their total deaths since the start of the pandemic to 1,555.

They also reported 42 new confirmed cases in Cameron County for a total of 38,122 confirmed cases there. Currently, 3,556 cases are considered active.
