Cameron County reports 7 virus deaths

Seven more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Thursday.

The individuals included one person in his 40s, three people in their 50s, one person in his 60s and two people in their 70s, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement Thursday night. Deaths were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen and San Benito, the health department said. This raises the total number of coronavirus related deaths reported in Cameron County to 1,506, the health department said.

Also Thursday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 48 COVID-19 cases in Cameron County, raising the total number of cases reported here to 37,566.

The new cases include six children ages 9 or younger, 11 people ages 10 to 19, 11 people in their 20s, four people in their 30s, five people in their 40s, three people in their 50s, two people in their 60s, four people in their 70s and two people in their 80s, the health department said.

There have also been an additional 262 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 32,567.

As part of the COVID19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed and continues to monitor the situation, the health department said in the statement.
