Power outages reported throughout Brownsville

Several power outages are being reported throughout Brownsville and utility officials say some of the outages are weather-related and others are outages initiated by ERCOT.

Traffic lights from Central Boulevard to Old Alice Road were out earlier this morning and businesses in the area were closed because they had no power.

Ryan Greenfeld, spokesman for Brownville Public Utilities Board, said PUB crews are out working on the outages that are weather related.

“We do have a mixture of outages…as far as things caused directly by the weather,” he said. Others are caused by the rotating outages.

He is encouraging residents to follow BPUB’s Facebook page which is constantly being updated with the latest information on the outages.

Greenfeld said outages initiated by ERCOT will most likely last throughout the day. He urges BPUB residents to limit the use of electricity as much as possible.

He added residents across Texas are also experiencing the rolling outages that Brownsville is.
