Laguna Madre area to host COVID-19 vaccination clinic

Hundreds of residents in the Laguna Madre area have the chance to receive a COVID-19 vaccine this week.

The City of Port Isabel announced there will be a mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic for people over 65 years of age that will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4 in Port Isabel.

Port Isabel is hosting the clinic in conjunction with the City of South Padre Island, the Town of Laguna Vista and the Point Isabel Independent School District.

According to the announcement, the clinic was made possible by an allocation of 300 vaccine doses from Cameron County.

Each city will conduct registration and distribute vouchers for the clinic to those who have registered.

Individuals will be chosen by a lottery system and contacted by phone or email.

Recipients will be informed by noon and can pick up their voucher anytime between 1 to 5 p.m. at the Laguna Vista City Hall, which is located at 122 Fernandez St.

Duplicate registrations will be eliminated.

South Padre Island

According to the announcement, with South Padre Island’s list having more than 1,000 registrants, the city will send an email to those that are next on the list, based on age, with instructions to pick up vouchers.

Vouchers will be distributed only to those notified and during a morning session.

Vaccination site

According to the announcement, vouchers will be designated for morning and afternoon sessions to alleviate traffic congestion.

When vouchers are distributed, instructions will be given regarding the vaccine site.

Participants are urged not to arrive prior to their scheduled vaccination window.

Participants are also asked to have their forms ready and filled out by the time they arrive at the vaccination site.

Those that did not receive the forms in their packet, are able to print them out from the Cameron County Public Health website at www.cameroncounty.us/publichealth/index.php/coronavirus/.

The announcement states that the public should not go to the vaccination site if they do not have a voucher.
