RGV Border Patrol agents arrest sex offenders at checkpoints

U.S. Border Patrol agents say they arrested three illegal immigrants all wanted on sex abuse cases.

On Sunday, three suspects were detained at the Vega Checkpoint near Sarita after being discovered in the truck of a Mercury Sable. In an agency news release, officials say one of the suspects was arrested in May 2019 by the Houston Sheriff’s Office for sexual assault of a child.

On Monday, agents say they stopped a group of 18 immigrants trying to make their way around the Sarita checkpoint. During processing, they say they learned one of the men is a member of the MS-13 gang.

McAllen agents say on Wednesday they arrested a man from El Salvador near Hidalgo. According to the news release, the man had been arrested by Los Angeles Police for lewd or lascivious acts with a minor.

A fourth suspect arrested in Sarita is reportedly an illegal immigrant convicted of sexual assault on a child.
