Man killed in Harlingen auto-pedestrian accident

Harlingen police say a 68-year-old man was killed Tuesday night when he was struck by a car in a neighborhood west of Commerce Street.

The accident happened at 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of East Buchanan Avenue and South First Street.

Officers say when they arrived they found Samuel Martinez-Perales injured at the accident scene.

Investigators say the victim was struck by a 25-year-old Harlingen man who was driving on Buchanan Avenue when he struck the man.

The 68-year-old man was taken to an area hospital where he later died of his injuries.

No charges have been filed against the driver. The accident remains under investigation.
