Cameron County lifts curfews

Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. has signed an 11th amended Emergency Management Order that includes the wearing of facial coverings and limitations on social gatherings.

It also lifts a curfew that was ordered Jan. 1 through Jan. 5.

The 11th amended Emergency Management Order took effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will remain in effect until 12:01 p.m. Feb.5.

The order states it remains a serious recommendation that for individuals to avoid congregations with persons that are not within their immediately house.

On Monday, Cameron County reported 620 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the county’s total number of cases to 30,292 and 25,553 recoveries. There have been 1,187 COVID-19 related deaths.

The reporting period for the latest cases was Jan. 1-4.

The order also states residents 10 years and older must continue to wear facial coverings.

Trevino states bars and similar establishments must adhere to the 11 p.m. closing requirement ordered by Governor Greg Abbott.

Social gatherings in Cameron County of more than 10 people that are not members of a single family are prohibited unless authorized by the mayor of a city or the county judge, Trevino states.
