Bayview man is latest COVID-19 victim in Cameron County

Another Cameron County resident has died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Thursday.

The death of the man in his 70s was reported in Bayview.

This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Cameron County to 1,158, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement Thursday night.

Also Thursday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 187 COVID-19 cases here, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in Cameron County to 28,113.

New cases were reported in Brownsville, Combes, Harlingen, La Feria, Laguna Heights, Laguna Vista, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Port Isabel, Primera, Rancho Viejo, Rio Hondo, San Benito, Santa Rosa and South Padre Island, the health department said.

The new cases include 13 children ages 9 and younger, 21 people ages 10 to 19, 39 people in their 20s, 34 people in their 30s, 31 people in their 40s, 19 people in their 50s, 11 people in their 60s, 15 people in their 70s and four people in their 80s.

There have also been an additional 139 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 24,542.
