HCISD superintendent Arturo Cavazos announces retirement

Longtime Harlingen CISD superintendent Arturo Cavazos announced on Wednesday he is retiring next year.

In a Facebook post, Cavazos says his retirement will become effective June 30, 2021.

“Having been with HCISD for 20 years, eight of those as superintendent of schools, this decision was not easy for me, but I must now re-prioritize my time and spend more of it with Sharon, Chris, and Matthew,” he said online.

“It’s been an incredible journey and an absolute privilege to work alongside our dedicated and passionate educators. You must know that the decision to retire weighs heavy on my heart, as I’ve come to care so much for the students and staff in our district. However, as I’ve often said, you must put family first.”

Cavazos said he is confident HCISD will continue to thrive because of our outstanding Board of Trustees and district family.
