Tent-O-Treat: San Benito CISD to host Afterschool Fall Festival

SAN BENITO — The coronavirus pandemic has caused many communities to make changes this year, which resulted in some annual events being canceled and others to undergo adjustments.

As another holiday continues to draw near, families and residents of this community will be able to safely celebrate with this upcoming Halloween celebration.

San Benito CISD’s Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) program will have its annual Lights on Afterschool Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Bobby Morrow Stadium.

The free festival will have a drive by “Tent-O-Treat” setup this year with ACE kit giveaways and music.

According to event organizers, the event will create a safe and fun atmosphere for the entire community, and will follow county safety guidelines.

Visitors of the event are encouraged to wear costumes and decorate their cars.

During the event, families must stay in their vehicles and all occupants must have masks.

The ACE program is inviting local businesses and community partners to participate in the event.

Campuses, departments or businesses that participate are asked to decorate their tent area with either a Halloween or fall theme, as well as have items to pass out to visitors, such as prizes, treats, coupons, face masks and/or school supplies.

According to the event’s registration page, participants must wear a mask. Those that are handing items to children in vehicles are encouraged to wear shields and gloves.

“Get creative and dress up,” the event’s registration page states. “Our community has missed out on so much let’s give them something to get excited about.”
