Cameron County officials said Thursday they have received confirmation of another COVID-19 related death here.
The individual was a 92-year-old male resident of the Windsor Atrium in Harlingen. He was a previously reported case.
This raises the number of COVID-19 related deaths to 18 in Cameron County.
“On behalf of the Cameron County Commissioners’ Court, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends,” stated Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr. “We will keep them in our thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.”
Cameron County has also received confirmation of an additional 11 reports of COVID-19. They range from a 5-year-old boy to a 96-year-old woman.
This raises the total number of cases to 412 in Cameron County. Of the 412 cases, 187 individuals have recovered.
Cameron County Public Health continues to work with the two nursing home facilities in addressing the COVID-19 outbreaks. To date, the Cameron County cases arising from the Veranda Nursing Home has included 31 employees and 58 residents who have tested positive, including 10 who have passed away.
The Windsor Atrium currently has 31 employees and 29 residents who have tested positive. They have had seven individuals linked to Windsor Atrium who have passed away.
As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed, and continues to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, 10 more people in Hidalgo County learned that they have tested positive for the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 334, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Thursday. Of that total, 171 are female and 163 are male.
Thirteen people were released from isolation, meaning they have had no symptoms for ten days and no fever for three days. This brings the total number of people who have been released to 195. The total number of active cases is 133.
