Letters to the Editor

LETTERS: Affirmative Action garners opposition, Keeping up with conflict

For some time, I have been meaning to express my views on our government’s attempt at dealing with racism! Little did I know as a young adult in the ’60s that the term “affirmative action” was such a misnomer!

LETTERS: Ageism decried, Isolation is costly

Before reading “Dolly Parton’s cheerleader outfit can teach us all a lesson on ageism” by Katie Camero,” I disregarded how poorly elders can be treated due to their age. The article was written regarding Parton’s Cowboys cheer uniform during her performance in the Dallas Cowboys-Washington Commanders halftime.

LETTERS: Event sponsors garner gratitude, Don’t drive impaired

Here we are attending the 27th annual Kids at the Movies. Shout out to the wonderful sponsors who collaborate every year to make this annual event a success.

LETTERS: Vouchers opposed, SpaceX safety record blasted

I am writing to convey my support for the Texas House decision to remove school vouchers from the massive state education bill. The House voted 84-63 in favor of an amendment to strip Gov. Greg Abbott’s school voucher proposal from House Bill 1, a proposed school spending bill. Texas needs to provide more, not less funding to public schools, and include teacher pay raises.

LETTERS: Self-driving trucks feared, Recent incident spurs comment

The Texas Department of Transportation has announced that soon, Austin Highway 130 will be testing a pilot program for self-driving trucks. Sensors will be placed along the road to communicate possible hazards and traffic with these trucks. This one-lane risky system will be testing the latest technology in self-driving vehicles.

LETTERS: Military recalled, Don’t generalize about immigrants

In memory of those who served their country during World War II and are now gone, I provide a few names. This information is based on an oral interview with Ruben Zuniga Rosales, known as Sepi, in Pharr.

LETTERS: SpaceX blasted, Don’t overbook doctors’ offices

On Nov. 18, SpaceX attempted another launch that ended in another rocket explosion. According to Texas Public Radio, the Super Heavy rocket caused an earthquake that was felt up to an hour away from the launch facility at Boca Chica Beach.

LETTERS: Political misdeeds, Stand down

Political parties have become so irresponsible, calling each other fascists and Nazis without thought to the fact that both have histories of autocracy, pervasive mandates, disregard for laws and voracious dictatorial hunger for power and wealth.

LETTERS: Cheney praised, Actions questioned

I’ve ordered the book “Oath and Honor” by this courageous remarkable woman, Liz Cheney. As much as I disagreed with her and her dad on the Iraq and Afghanistan war, the interpretation of the Second Amendment, abortion rights and various other subjects, I agree wholeheartedly with her warning about a second Donald Trump term.

LETTERS: Trump backed, Biden bashed

The messages emanating from the media squawk galleries are absolutely titillating, enthralling and gripping. Like a clever Hollywood script, with the good: (Democrats) and the bad: (Orange Man) in an epic showdown of corporate morality.
