Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor | Week of Jan. 8-14, 2024

Letters to the editor published in The Monitor, Valley Morning Star and The Brownsville Herald during the week of Jan. 8, 2024.

Letters: Teacher pay up to voters

Ms. Ada Keila Estrada expressed her opinion about school vouchers and deficient teacher’s salaries in your Dec. 18 edition. I am one of those teachers and one of many who have worked in the business world and the field of education and have feelings on both sides of the fence!

LETTERS: Corruption is a concern, No book bans in high school

After reading that a former Weslaco city commissioner was sentenced to more than 2 years for bribery, we can confirm that corruption is everywhere. The former commissioner was bribed to benefit legally some companies from 2005 to 2015, getting arrested with his partners.

LETTERS: Biden should support Israel, Streets blasted

After reading that Hamas had released a group of Hostages, I hope President Joe Biden can do much more to condemn the Hamas kidnapping of Israelis and vow to work closely with international partners to ensure the safe return of hostages.

LETTERS: Special bonds, Immigrant population

I read how organ bonds families. Chase Crompvoets became an organ donor at the young age of 18. His lungs were donated to Eric Sheets in Indianapolis. After a few years of grieving, Sheets decided to do his part and met up with his donor’s family. This is such a heartwarming act and should be done more frequently by other people.

Letters to the Editor | Week of Jan. 1, 2024

Letters to the editor published in The Monitor, Valley Morning Star and The Brownsville Herald during the week of Jan. 1, 2024.

LETTERS: War assistance draws support

I wish to rebut the commentary by Zoe Lee Alvarez printed Dec. 20 21.

LETTERS: Republicans draw attack, Standard recourse

Are those MAGA Republicans in Florida having orgies? Yes. Especially if you are getting “don’t say gay bills” passed or banning books from libraries statewide.

LETTERS: Conflicted Congress, Partisan hysterics

The article about issues over the IRS and border security stalling military aid to Israel and Ukraine has made me aware that accountability is needed. Congress is having trouble passing a foreign aid package for Israel and Ukraine while trying to agree on immigration reform. Members of the White House and Senate are feuding, and these actions need to be showcased, because it is unethical for them to be acting this way.

LETTERS: Facility welcome, No one coming for your guns

After reading the article “STHS opens chemical dependency unit in Edinburg” by Erika De Los Reyes, I am optimistic that this is a substance abuse facility the Rio Grande valley has been needing. This facility can be utilized by several individuals who need help.
