Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men, but the good news is that early detection and advanced treatment options can significantly improve outcomes. DHR Health is proud to offer a comprehensive approach to prostate cancer treatment, including a team of specialists in urologic oncology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology.
At DHR Health, we utilize the PSMA PET Scanner, a state-of-the-art imaging technology that enhances the accuracy of prostate cancer detection. By targeting prostate specific membrane antigens, this advanced scanner identifies cancer cells more precisely, even in early or recurrent cases.
“The PSMA PET Scanner is a game changer for prostate cancer patients, allowing us to detect the disease at earlier stages and tailor treatment with greater precision,” said Dr. Jose Cruz Medical Oncologist/Hematologist at DHR Health Oncology Institute.
Dr. David Alonzo, Urologic Oncologist, added, “For urology patients, this technology improves staging accuracy, enabling more personalized treatment plans and ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.”
What is the Prostate?
The prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland located below the bladder and in front of the rectum. Its primary function is to produce seminal fluid, which nourishes and transports sperm. As men age, the prostate may enlarge or develop abnormalities, including cancer.
What is Prostate Cancer?
Prostate cancer is an abnormal growth of cells causing tumors that start in the prostate gland. The prostate gland is a gland that helps semen flow that sits between the bladder and the tube called the urethra that carries urine. The tumor starts inside the gland and can spread outside of the gland into surrounding organs and throughout the body, including the bones and lungs.
Prevention and Early Detection
Although there is no guaranteed way to prevent prostate cancer, certain lifestyle choices can reduce the risk. Maintaining a healthy diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains may lower the risk. Regular exercise, can contribute to a man’s overall well-being and help maintain a healthy weight. Avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol intake are also beneficial. Like many cancers, early detection is key which includes regular screening tests, including the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and digital rectal exam (DRE), are essential for identifying potential issues and obtaining care.
