HARLINGEN — The Harlingen school district is releasing its first progress reports since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
It’s a small milestone for the district’s new School@Home program developed in the initial days of the stay-at-home order.
Students who have been taking courses online have been able to turn in their work promptly for teachers to grade and state their progress. However, students without access have been picking up instructional packets, and they won’t be turned in until Thursday.
That makes grading a little hard, said Lori Romero, assistant superintendent for elementary education.
“We just sent a letter to parents explaining that this first time around, our progress reports are going to be either an S or U, satisfactory or unsatisfactory,” Romero said. “It depends on, did they pick up the packet, are they having good communication with the teacher, are they following through.”
Progress reports are being issued every three weeks, Romero said. The next time around, packets will be returned in time to get a more complete grade for students’ work.
Reports for both online students and those working through instructional packets can be found at the parent access center on the school district’s website.
