Weslaco launches online permitting portal

WESLACO — City permits are now available for public viewing via a new online portal.

WESLACO — City permits are now available for public viewing via a new online portal.

At weslacopermits.com, general contractors or trade professionals who’ve already registered with the City of Weslaco can now access permits, request inspections, pay permit or re-inspection fees, and upload or view any associated documents.

The status of any permit or inspection is also available on the website. Such access is also available to homeowners, according to City Engineer Mardoqueo Hinojosa.

“We’ve taken baby steps in getting everybody familiar with the new process, as far as contractors, developers and homeowners,” Hinojosa said on Tuesday. “So now we’re at the point of implementing some of these features, which are already online for people to view. Contractors can submit further inspections online and don’t even have to visit City Hall.”

Trade professionals specializing in commercial and residential plumbing, electrical or mechanical work can also apply for permits online.

“They can also pay online and view documents and avoid coming into City Hall,” Hinojosa added. “Right now, say that we have a homeowner that’s working with their contractor who’s almost finished with the house, well they can track all the inspections that he’s asking for online.”

To gain access to these features, individuals must register an account by visiting the aforementioned website. A city press release also pointed to an online feature that can guide those who may need using step-by-step instructions.

Those with additional questions can visit the kiosk located at the Planning and Code Enforcement Department inside City Hall, located at 255 S. Kansas Ave. in Weslaco, or by calling (956) 973-3123.
