Bobby Muniz completes school board leadership program

HARLINGEN — School board member Bobby Muniz feels honored to have completed a leadership training session which connected him to educators throughout Texas.

“It’s an honor to be designated a master trustee,” said Muniz, who earned the distinction after completing Leadership TASB, a program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards.

Muniz was one of 33 school board members who participated in the year-long program, a press release stated. They were divided into five teams, and each team did research in a federal law known as the Every Student Succeeds Act.

Their research focused on the law’s topics that include education for disadvantaged students, English language learners, 21st century schools, and numerous other issues in education.

Participants who completed the program earned Master Trustee status, the highest designation recognized by TASB.

Muniz expressed gratitude for the experience.

“This program has been nothing short of amazing,” he said. “In the program I have met and created a wonderful network of individuals who are like-minded trustees from all over the state of Texas.”

In the process, he said, he’s met with representatives of other districts struggling with similar issues as those in the Harlingen school district.

“It’s amazing to see the similarities that we all have within our school districts and to see that we all have one purpose and one goal,” he said. “That goal is to make the best decisions for our students and our teachers.”
