Border Patrol agents apprehend men formerly arrested for sexual assault

U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector arrested two sex offenders Sunday while they were attempting to enter the U.S. illegally, according to a Tuesday news release.

Agents assigned to the Fort Brown station arrested a Guatemalan national who had a criminal history that included arrests by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department for child abuse and torture and for rape and aggravated criminal sodomy, the release said.

In a separate incident, agents from the Weslaco station apprehended a Mexican national near Donna. During processing, record checks revealed that the man had been arrested in April 2004 by the Hartford, Connecticut Police Department for sexual assault.

The men were referred to the Rio Grande Valley Sector Prosecutions Office for disposition.
