HCISD building new Media Arts and Communication Academy

What was once a band hall will soon become the new Media Arts and Communications Academy.

Work is underway to turn the band hall at the old Memorial Middle School into a studio where students will learn television and radio production.

The sound proof panels installed when the room was a band hall are still in place and will be used in the studio.

The Harlingen school district’s maintenance department is performing some of the work, putting in ceiling tiles, painting door and window frames and fire alarm upgrades.

Alpha Contruction will soon begin work on TV studio upgrades, installing light dimmers and lighting racks. Part of the new Academy will involve students creating 30-second ads free of charge for local entities.
