EDINBURG — Officials at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley announced Friday that Patricia Alvarez McHatton will take on the role of interim-vice president for academic affairs effective Aug. 1, as Founding Vice-President Havidán Rodríguez departs this summer.

Rodríguez, who also served as interim-president of UTRGV’s legacy institution UT-Pan American, was recently named president of State University of New York at Albany and is scheduled to take on the role in mid-September.

McHatton joined UTRGV in 2015 as dean of the College of Education and P-16 Integration. Before her move the Valley, she worked as associate dean of Teacher Education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to serve in this interim role, and I thank President Bailey for his confidence in me,” McHatton said in an internal announcement obtained by The Monitor. “This is a wonderful opportunity to expand my interactions and collaborations with our outstanding students, faculty, and staff.”
